These terms apply to bookings with Amaze Auto (〒591-8011 535-1 Minamihanada-cho, Kita-ku, Sakai-shi, Osaka). At pick-up you will also be asked to read and sign our Rental Terms and Conditions, which govern the rental itself.
1. Who can rent
- You must be over 26 years old and have held a driver's license for at least 5 years.
- You need a license that is valid in Japan: a Japanese license, an International Driving Permit under the Geneva Convention, or a license from Switzerland, Germany, France, Taiwan, Belgium or Monaco with an official Japanese translation. A license from your home country alone is not enough. See valid licenses in Japan (PDF).
- At pick-up, bring your driver's license, passport and a credit card. Every driver must show their license and passport. Additional drivers are free.
- If you cannot show a valid license, we cannot rent you a car.
- Visitors from overseas need the landing permission (entry) stamp in their passport. If you entered Japan through an automated gate, ask the immigration officer for the stamp. Without it we cannot rent you a car.
2. Prices
- Prices on this site include 10% consumption tax.
- The rental fee is calculated from the pick-up and return times: a short-rental rate for up to 3, 6 or 12 hours where the vehicle has one, a 24-hour rate, and a rate for each additional 24 hours or part of it.
- Insurance is not included in the rate: it is required and charged per 24 hours on every rental (see Insurance), and it waives the Non-Operation Charge. Extra options, delivery outside our shop (¥5,500 per trip, free for rentals of 3 days or more), fuel and expressway tolls are charged separately.
- There is no mileage limit.
3. Booking and payment
- When you book online you pay either the full rental fee or a booking deposit of 30% of it (at most ¥50,000). Any balance is paid at pick-up.
- Separately, at pick-up we hold up to ¥100,000 on your credit card as a security deposit for expressway (ETC) tolls, fuel, and speeding or parking fines. ETC tolls carry a 4% card handling fee. The deposit is settled and the rest released within 4 weeks of return.
- Online you can pay by card (Stripe) or PayPal. At pick-up we accept card or cash.
4. Changes and cancellation
You can change the dates, pick-up location or vehicle up to 48 hours before pick-up by contacting us. Cancellation charges are:

The cancellation charge is at most ¥6,000 (not taxable).
5. During the rental
- Drive safely, follow Japanese traffic rules, and do not drive on circuits without our permission.
- No smoking of any kind, including e-cigarettes. A cleaning fee is charged if the car smells of smoke or shows signs of smoking.
- Pets (dogs and cats under 10 kg, in a cage) are allowed only in W, V and SUV class vehicles, only if arranged in advance, and with a signed consent form.
- To extend the rental, contact us as early as possible. A penalty applies if you return late without telling us.
6. Return
- Return the car to the agreed place, in the same condition as at pick-up. You do not need to refill the tank; fuel is charged from the security deposit.
- The insurance waives the Non-Operation Charge (NOC) when the car must be repaired or cleaned because of an accident, theft, breakdown, stains or damage. A NOC of ¥50,000 still applies for deliberate damage or a broken rule, such as smoking in the car.
7. Accidents and breakdowns
Get help for anyone injured, call the police on 110 and get an accident report, then contact us. For emergencies outside business hours, use the number we give you at pick-up.
