Rental procedure

Step 1Before you book

To rent a car from us:

• You are over 26 years old.
• You have a driver's license that is valid in Japan.
• You have held a driver's license for at least 5 years.

Plus three simple rules

• Drive safely, follow the traffic rules, and do not drive on circuits without our permission.
• No smoking in the car, including e-cigarettes.
• Return the car in the same condition as when you picked it up.

Breaking these rules leads to additional charges.

Step 2Book and pay online

• Search for your pick-up and return dates and times, and choose a car.
• Enter your details. If you want the car delivered to the airport, a hotel or a station, write the place (and your flight number) under “Special requests / notes”.
• Pay online by card or PayPal: either a deposit of 30% of the rental fee (at most ¥50,000) or the full amount. Any balance is paid at pick-up.
• You receive a confirmation by email.

Step 3On the day: pick up your car

Bring with you

• Driver's license (every driver)
• Passport (every driver)
• Credit card

Pay any balance, sign the rental terms, and check the car for damage together with our staff. Then the car is yours. Enjoy your trip in Japan!

Security deposit

We hold up to ¥100,000 on your credit card to cover expressway (ETC) tolls, fuel, and speeding or parking fines. ETC tolls carry a 4% card handling fee (for example, ¥10,000 of tolls is charged as ¥10,400). If there are no problems, the rest is released within 4 weeks of the return.

Step 4Before you drive off

• Read the Rental Terms and Conditions we prepare for you and sign them. Ask our staff if anything is unclear.
• Check the car for scratches and dents with our staff before departure.
• Adjust the seat and mirrors. Everyone wears a seat belt, front and rear.
• Read up on driving in Japan and the parking rules before you set off.

Step 5Returning the car

Bring the car to the place you chose when booking. We check it for damage with you, settle the bill, and the return is complete.

• You do not need to refill the tank: fuel is charged from the security deposit. See rates and fees.
• Want the car longer? Contact us in advance. A penalty applies if you return late without telling us.
• Any difference in the rental fee is settled at the return.
• Take all your belongings out of the car.

If you return the car somewhere other than our shop, we check the ETC tolls afterwards, send you the details and deduct them (plus the 4% card fee) from the deposit. The rest is released within 4 weeks.
