Reservations

What do I need to rent a car?

Please bring:

  • A driver's license that is valid in Japan
  • Your passport
  • A credit card
Can I drive in Japan with the license from my own country?

A license from your home country alone does not allow you to drive in Japan. See valid driver's licenses in Japan.

If you cannot show a valid license, we cannot rent you a car. Please bring it with you on the day.

How late can I book?

You can book online up to 24 hours before pick-up, but cars may already be fully booked. Book as soon as your plans are fixed.

Do cars get fully booked?

Yes. These Japanese holiday periods are especially busy, so we recommend booking early:

  • Late April to early May (Golden Week)
  • Mid-August
  • The end and start of the year
How far ahead can I book?

Online bookings open 3 months before the pick-up date.

Do I have to return the car where I picked it up?

No. With our delivery service you can return the car somewhere else, between Kansai Airport and Osaka City.

I booked in my name. Can my travel companions drive too?

Yes, your companions can drive as well. Every driver must show a valid driver's license and passport at pick-up. Additional drivers are free.

Can I change my booking?

You can change the date, pick-up place or car up to 48 hours before pick-up. Please contact us by email or message.

Can I cancel my booking?

Yes, you can cancel up to 48 hours before pick-up. Cancellation charges apply; see the booking terms.

Payment and deposit

How do I pay?

You pay online when you book, by card or PayPal. Choose either a deposit of 30% of the rental fee (at most ¥50,000) or the full amount. Any balance is paid at pick-up.

Can I pay in cash?

Sorry, we do not accept cash. Please pay by card or PayPal.

How much does a rental cost?

The rental fee depends on the car and the length of the rental. You see the exact price for your dates when you search for a car. See also rates and fees.

Are there any costs on top of the rental fee?

Depending on your booking:

  • Insurance, which comes with every rental
  • Extra options you ask for
  • The delivery fee if you pick up or return the car away from our shop
  • Fuel and expressway tolls
Are there any discounts?

Yes. If you have a discount or referral code, enter it when you book or mention it when you contact us.

Is there a security deposit?

Yes. At pick-up we hold up to ¥100,000 on your credit card or debit card for expressway tolls, fuel and fines. A hold on a debit card reduces the money available in that account until it is released, within 4 weeks of the return.

Insurance and equipment

Is insurance included?

Yes. Every rental comes with insurance and compensation. The cover is:

Bodily injuryUnlimited per person (including compulsory automobile liability insurance)
Property damageUnlimited per accident
Vehicle damageUp to the market value of the car per accident
Personal injuryUp to ¥30,000,000 per person

Passenger injuries (including death and lasting disability) are paid regardless of the driver's fault, up to ¥30,000,000; the insurer calculates the amount under the policy. See insurance for details.

Is there a mileage limit?

No. There is no mileage limit and no charge per kilometre. Drive as far as you like!

Does the car have navigation?

Car navigation is standard on all passenger cars, including station wagons and SUVs (except some models).

Does the navigation speak my language?

Navigation with English, Chinese or Korean voice guidance is available; some screens are in Japanese only. Tell us your preferred language when you book (under “Special requests / notes”). We may not always be able to meet the request.

How do I rent an ETC card?

Ask for an ETC card when you book. The card is free, but expressway tolls are not included.

If you return the car anywhere other than our shop, we check the ETC tolls afterwards, send you the details and deduct them from your deposit. The rest of the deposit is released within 4 weeks of the return.

We charge a 4% card handling fee on the tolls.

Do I need an ETC card to use expressways?

No. You can drive on expressways without one, but you cannot use the ETC lanes at the toll gates. Use the lanes marked “一般” (General).

I am travelling in winter. Do I need winter tires or snow chains?

Snow starts to fall in some parts of Japan from autumn. If you are heading to an area with snow, you need winter tires or snow chains. Please contact us about availability for your car.

Pets, smoking and cleaning

Can I bring a pet?

Yes, under these conditions, and only if you tell us when you book:

PetsDogs and cats only
SizeFits in a 70 × 90 × 75 cm cage, under 10 kg
CarsW, V and SUV class only
  1. Tell us you are travelling with a pet when you book.
  2. Keep the pet in a cage of up to 70 × 90 × 75 cm while in the car (please bring your own cage).
  3. Put the cage in the luggage space.
  4. Lay an Amaze Auto sheet under the cage (sold at the shop for ¥550 including tax).
  5. Sign the consent form at the shop.

If any of these is not met, we cannot let you travel with a pet. If the car needs repair because of a strong smell, dirt or damage, a Non-Operation Charge applies. These rules do not apply to assistance dogs (service, guide and hearing dogs).

Can I smoke or vape in the car?

No. All smoking is prohibited in our cars, including e-cigarettes and vaping. If a car comes back smelling of any kind of smoke or vapour, we charge a cleaning fee.

How do you check for smoking?

Every car is checked for cleanliness before it goes out and inspected again when it comes back. If we find signs of smoking (ash, butts, burns) or a smoky smell, a fee is charged.

We normally tell you at the return. If we cannot, for example because you left before the inspection, no staff were present, or the car came back after hours, we tell you by email that the fee has been charged to your card.

How much is the cleaning or repair charge?

The insurance that comes with every booking waives the Non-Operation Charge (NOC) when the car has to be repaired or cleaned after an accident, theft, breakdown, stains or damage.

A NOC of ¥50,000 still applies if the damage is deliberate or a rule is broken, for example smoking in the car.
