Insurance and compensation

For your peace of mind, every rental comes with comprehensive insurance, added to your booking automatically.

Included cover

Our insurance combines a deductible waiver (the Exclusion of Liability Compensation System) with a waiver of the Non-Operation Charge (NOC). Repairs to punctured tires and lost hubcaps are covered too.

Flat tires and hubcapsRepairing a punctured tire, or a new tire and the labour if it must be replaced, lost hubcaps and damaged wheels are free (alloy wheels excluded).

* Injuries to passengers (including death and lasting disability) are paid regardless of the driver's fault, up to ¥30,000,000. The insurer calculates the amount under the policy.

Not covered

The insurance and compensation do not apply when:

  • The accident is not reported to the police (there is no accident report).
  • Someone other than the drivers registered at pick-up was driving.
  • The driver had no valid license.
  • The driver was under the influence of alcohol.
  • The accident happened after the rental period ran out and was extended without our permission.
  • Other terms of the rental agreement were broken (for example, the car was stolen with the key left inside).
  • Damage not covered or not paid by the insurance is paid by the customer.
  • Accidents excluded by the insurance policy are not covered. Without a police accident report, the insurance may not pay.
  • If the car cannot be driven after an accident, the rental agreement ends. Continuing with another car needs a new rental agreement, which the insurance does not pay for.
  • If damage is caused on purpose or by breaking the rules (for example, smoking in the car), a Non-Operation Charge of ¥50,000 is payable.

Tires

  • A spare tire is fitted by the road service of our designated insurer, or by yourself.
  • If a car without a spare tire has a puncture, do not use the repair kit: call the insurer's road service. The car is taken to the nearest repair shop (free within the road service conditions).
  • If you have to use the puncture repair kit in an emergency, the kit is charged to you.
  • Before replacing a tire with a new one, contact us. Damaged tires are replaced with the same type; any extra cost is yours.
  • If you pay for a tire repair or a new tire yourself, show the receipt when you return the car and we will refund it.
